walthamstow market

A rare trip north of Stoke Newington took me to Walthamstow Market on Saturday – Europe’s longest street market, according to the website.

It’s a functional market in the style of Chapel Street or Petticoat Lane, rather than the trendy Broadway or Spitalfields, but refreshing and good fun for that very reason. The wares were a mixture of household goods, bargain fruit and veg (punnets of blueberries, two for a quid anyone?), cheap clothes, music stalls blaring out beats and a smattering of delicious looking cake stalls and street food down the St James Street end.

I particularly enjoyed the highly specialist stalls, including one guy who sold exclusively foam wadding. Not only did it make a great pic, but I know where I’ll go should I ever need any wadding!
